Meal Makers is a local neighbourhood food-sharing project that connects people who love cooking, and who are happy to share an extra portion of home cooked food, with an older neighbour who would really appreciate a freshly prepared meal and a friendly chat.

By turning an everyday activity into a volunteering opportunity, Meal Makers strengthens connections within communities and provides a flexible way for people to volunteer their time and skills locally in a way which suits them.

How it works:

Cooks:

Sign up online, complete the food hygiene quiz, and undergo a PVG criminal record background check. Once the application has been approved you can select a diner in your local area.
Meal Makers contact selected Diner and if they  are happy to proceed we pass on contact details so you can introduce yourself and organise your first meal share.
You deliver your tasty home cooked meal to your diner and upload the meal share onto your online profile. Meal Makers phone both parties to hear how it went.

Diners:

Diners are referred by local recruiters or sign up directly themselves. Meal Makers send out Diners handbook, welcome letterand sign up forms. Diner returns sign up forms, and Meal Makers staff upload diner profile Meal Makers contact selected Diner and if they  are happy to proceed we pass on contact details so you can introduce yourself and organise your first meal share.

If you know of an older person who would appreciate having a home cooked meal delivered to them by a friendly neighbour, let Meal Makers know at hello@mealmakers.org.uk or on 0800 783 7770
