Support in Mind Scotland are undertaking a new groundbreaking project within Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway. It will examine mental health in rural areas, building upon a study carried out by Support in Mind Scotland (SiMs) and the Scottish Rural College (SRC) in 2017 which highlighted that in rural areas “Community” is seen as central to prevention/early intervention in addressing mental ill-health. The SiMS/SRUC survey of people who self-identified as having mental health problems, focused on experiences of rural life and how they felt about their community. The project’s whole orientation is community-centred, linked to the context of local economy, partnerships, private sector and practice “worlds”. Community voices are central to establishing the way forward for the next stage of this project.
